CELEBRATE RECOVERY’S EIGHT RECOVERY PRINCIPLES

The Road to Recovery
Based on the Beatitudes

Realize I’m not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable. (Step 1)

“Happy are those who know that they are spiritually poor.”

Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him and that He has the power to help me recover. (Step 2

“Happy are those how mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control. (Step 3)

“Happy are the meek.”

Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust. (Steps 4 and 5)

“Happy are the pure in heart.”

Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects. (Steps 6 and 7)

“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires”

Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others when possible, except when to do so would harm them or others. (Steps 8 and 9)

“Happy are the merciful.”

“Happy are the peacemakers”

Reserve a time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will. (Steps 10 and 11)

Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and my words. (Step 12)

“Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.”

New and dangerous club drug being sold to high school and college age students. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) working with the Michigan State Police and local law enforcement agencies have recently discovered the presence of a new and dangerous club drug that is being sold to high school and college age students at "Rave" parties throughout the Detroit and Ann Arbor areas. This substance is known on the street as "Molly", which is 1-(3-Trifluoromethylphenyl) piperazine (TFMPP).

This is an extremely dangerous drug, which is clandestinely manufactured and marketed in "Rave Clubs" as a more intense form of Ecstasy. This drug is an off-white powder generally sold in a gelatin capsule. TFMPP and Benzylpiperazine (BZP) were both given emergency controlled substance scheduling by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in September 2002. TFMPP was given Schedule I status, meaning it has a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use. This drug first appeared on the West Coast of the United States and these recent seizures in Michigan are the first indication of its presence in the metropolitan Detroit area. TFMPP also goes by the names "legal E", "legal X" or "A2". TFMPP can cause increased heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature . . . more
"Molly" has properties similar to the stimulant effects of Ecstasy, but taken in larger doses it promotes hallucinogenic reactions. This poses an even greater risk to young adults who have taken Ecstasy previously and accidentally overdose by trying to achieve the hallucinogenic effects. DEA is currently conducting "Operation X-Out", which is a nationwide initiative to increase education and enforcement operations involving club and predatory drugs. Drug distributors have invaded the Internet with misinformation regarding the dangers of club and "date rape" drugs that are marketed toward young people. Effective information campaigns are essential to inform young Americans about club drugs such as GHB, Ecstasy, Ketamine and TFMPP, which are promoted by individuals who disguise their deadly effects.

"This is another example of individuals exploiting our young people with dangerous mixtures of chemicals that have the potential for deadly consequences. The DEA working closely with state and local law enforcement agencies, will do everything in our power to protect our children," said Michael A. Braun, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Detroit Field Division.

How To Write My Testimony

This is a guide to help you write your Celebrate Recovery testimony. God’s word tells us,

“It is a proof of your faith. Many people will praise God because you obey the Good News of Christ—the gospel you say you believe – and because you freely share with them and with all others.” (2 Cor 9:13 NCV)

Testimony Guidelines:
a. Before you start writing, pray and ask God for help and the words to share.
b. Be sure to include 1 or 2 of your favorite scriptures.
c. Be honest.
d. Remember that you are not cured.
e. Don’t use religious clichés.
f. Keep it short and to the point.
g. HAVE FUN.

There are four major parts to your story. Relax and let’s get started.

1st The Old Me

a. Start out with, “I’m a believer who struggles with __________.”
b. What was the insanity of my life before recovery?
c. What are some of the circumstances others could relate to?
d. What was my relationship to God like?
e. What was my attitude to others like?
f. What was my bottom?

2nd My Experiences and Changes in Working through Celebrate Recovery

a. How I got into recovery.
b. How has my growing relationship with Jesus Christ influenced my recovery?
c. How did working the program help me? (be specific)
d. Did a single step touch my heart in a special way?

3rd The New Me

a. What changes God has made in my relationships with others?
b. What areas of my old life are gone and how have they changed?
c. How has my walk with God changed?
d. What are some of the great benefits that I have received from working the program?

4th Outreach

a. What encouragement can I give a newcomer
