Jesus Is My Friend

A Place to Share Our Testimony & Learn About Jesus Christ

When does the gift of tongues cease in the bible? When Jesus comes the church will be taken up and their will be no more need for it. Beware of People who say its not for us today! Today is the Day of salvation! Who are we to say God doesn't want to give it to us today? If it's not happening at your church than you should change your religion! In Spite Of Unbelief God's Word Still remains true! Receiving the Holy Ghost is just as important as receiving it the way they did in Acts to be saved. Acts 2:1-4 Acts 19:1-6 Mark 16:17

Before many of you say my church is out of order in the first video, One must understand that there is 3 different types of Tongues in the bible. For better understanding here is a note written by a good friend and Brother of mine Steve Ashe.
There are 3 different types of ‘tongues’ mentioned and used in the New Testament.

1. Tongues as the initial evidence of receiving the Gift of the Holy Spirit - Acts 2:1-4

This is always the first type of tongues given and the following 2 other types cannot be given until this first one has taken place. This type is always in some earthy language but unknown to the one speaking - Acts 2:1-4, 8.

This ‘tongue’ is not limited to just the first time being filled with the Holy Ghost but continues anytime we allow the Holy Ghost the liberty to express itself using our tongue / mouth. It never ‘overtakes’ our will but works within our will and is expressed as we ‘allow’ it. This can be daily and anywhere we desire it to be. We sometimes speak in ‘tongue’s at home, at work, walking down the street, etc. Many times in a church service as we worship and praise Jesus even in singing at times (depends on each individual). We also can speak in ‘tongues’ while teaching / preaching as it is so wonderful and powerful that we let / allow it to flow and it is not disruptive or out of order with the flow of the service. And it is not to be confused with ‘praying in tongues although it many times flows into and changes over to that type. And it is not to be confused with the Gift of Tongues as that is totally separate and distinct gift and action.

2. Tongues as a praying method - speaking to God in prayer with tongues is personal edification and communications with Jesus in a Spiritual level. This type of tongues is always in a ‘heavenly language’ and is not known by any earthly language or person only God understands it and your inner-spirit person. 1 Corinthians 14:2-14

This second type only comes after the 1st type has been experienced and many times our ‘speaking in tongues (type one) can change over into praying in tongues and that is just fine and actually wonderful experience - shows the easy and smoothness of our level of comfort with the activity and move of God in our lives, hearts and body (both physically and spiritually).

3. The ‘Gift of Tongues’ coupled with the ‘Gift of Interpretation of Tongues’ (This can be a known earthly language or another ‘heavenly language’ it is totally up to God which one He uses in this Gift - In 1 Corinthians 14:27

Gift of Tongues: Actually, the Bible does not call this gift the "gift of tongues," but rather "divers (or different) kinds of tongues" (I Corinthians 12:28). This can be divided into two parts:

a. speaking in tongues for personal edification.

This is ‘praying in tongues’.

b. speaking in tongues for church edification.

This is what we call: The Gift Of Tongues

I Corinthians, Chapter 14, governs the use of this gift and the gift of prophecy.

The gifts of the Spirit are never for self-glorification. They are for the edification of the body of Christ:

"But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth (builds up) himself (praying in tongues); but he that prophesieth (Gift of Tongues with the separate Gift of Interpretation) edifieth (builds up) the church.

I would that ye all spake with tongues (speak in tongues as the initial evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit and then ‘praying in tongues’ for self edification), but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues (praying in tongues as self edifying), except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying (Gift of Tongues with Gift of Interpretation)" (I Corinthians 14:3-5).

"Let all things be done unto edifying" (I Corinthians 14:26).

when it says: “If any man speak in an unknown tongue it means unknown to that particular man or person) - This is used only in a group of believers / church setting and is always properly done by 2 or at the most by 3. This is not a ‘Gift’ that everyone receives but is reserved by ‘to whom the Spirit (of God) gives it to. Could be me, or you or someone else in any particular service (church service). It can be given to a person a number of times or only once. It can be used with the same people many times or again only once and then move on to others. It is as the Spirit of God directs and wills within a congregation. To have a minister or a saint sitting in a pew speak in ‘tongues’ may or may not be the ‘Gift of Tongues’ and any understanding person will wait and pray while tongues is being spoken to seek God’s direction as to whether that ‘speaking’ is the Gift or just someone worshiping and praising Jesus using type 1 tongues in worship or type 2 in praying. It is not confusing, not disruptive and not out of order unless the one talking tries to over speak whoever is preaching or teaching for we must (as any baby in Christ) learn to blend and conform to the move of the Spirit and the flow of the service as that is what ‘growing in Christ’ is partly about.

1 Corinthians 12:2-12 (KJV) Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles another; to prophecy discerning of spirits divers kinds of tongues; to another ; to another ; to another the interpretation of tongues: worketh that one and the11 But all these selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
Speaking with Tongues means speaking miraculously in a language unknown to the speaker.

•There are three different kinds of tongues

•(1) It is the initial evidence when someone is baptized with the Holy Ghost

Acts 2:4 (KJV) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 10:44-46 (KJV) While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

Acts 19:6 (KJV) And when Paul had laid His hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

•Speaking to God in personnel prayer

1 Corinthians 14:2 (KJV) For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth Him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

1 Corinthians 14:14-15 (KJV) For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

1 Corinthians 14:4 (KJV) He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth Himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

•Addressing the church, coupled with interpretation

1 Corinthians 14:13-27 (KJV) Wherefore let Him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest? 17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. 18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: 19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. 20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. 21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. 22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. 23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? 24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: 25 And thus are the secrets of His heart made manifest; and so falling down on His face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth. 26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. 27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 85. 1 Corinthians 14:13-27 (KJV) Wherefore let Him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

•Prophesied in the Old Testament

Isaiah 28:11-12 (KJV) For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. 12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

(1) Interpretation of Tongues
•By this gift, a person interprets (not merely translates) a message in tongues for the church.

•When a person brings a message to the church through the gift of tongues, the gift of interpretation of tongues is used to edify the church.

1 Corinthians 14:13 (KJV) Wherefore let Him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

•If there is no interpreter, the one speaking in the unknown tongue should keep silence in the church, although he can continue to pray in tongues personally.

1 Corinthians 14:28 (KJV) But if there be no interpreter, let Him keep silence in the church; and let Him speak to Himself, and to God.

•The pastor should always have the oversight in the operation of the gifts.

1 Corinthians 14:29 (KJV) Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

1 Corinthians 14:33 (KJV) For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all 90. 1 Corinthians 14:33 (KJV) For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

2. Matthias chosen to take Judas' place Acts 1:15-26

3. Group of 120 continue in prayer in one accord

Acts 1:14,15

Chart Page 38 Dispensation of the Holy Ghost

This dispensation is so-called because the Grace of God is the predominant characteristic throughout. “The LAW was given by Moses, but ‘GRACE’ and TRUTH’ came by Jesus Christ.” John. 1:16-17

1. They are all filled with the Holy Ghost

This was the 120 in the Upper Room, which included Mary the mother of Jesus, other women, all of the Apostles and those who had been on the mount of Olives when Jesus gave the ‘Great Commission’, then was taken to Heaven and they were told to return to Jerusalem to wait for the promise of the Father. Acts 1:3-4

Acts 1:13-15

Acts 2:1-4

2. Multitude hears own language spoken Acts 2:5-13

There was 14 different nationalities in Jerusalem, each were Jewish but lived in other countries, each knew at least 3 languages. Hebrew, Latin, Greek and those from other countries also knew their countries nature language so them hearing the 120 speak in tongues in their own countries language was natural. Some people believes incorrectly that tongues ended there because the only reason they were there at the first was for those of other languages could understand what was happening and that is absolutely false as seen in the fact of ALL JEWS KNEW AT LEAST 3 COMMON LANGUAGES as stated above.

3. Jews and Gentiles are now united in the church, which is His body Acts 2:41, 47 Eph.1:21-23Col.3:11

2. He gives instructions for receiving the Holy Ghost - Acts 2:37-40 He used the "3 KEYS" of the New Testament Salvation Plan Acts 2:37-40

3. 3,000 added to the church the same day

Acts 2:41

4. Another 5,000 added. Acts 4:4

5. A ‘multitude’ both of men and women obey Acts 2:38 (the word ‘multitude’ as used in the Bible means at minimum of 10,000 people, a great multitude would be 100,000 or more. ) See also Acts 6:1-2.

6. Even some of the priests were obedient to the faith

Acts 2:38

Acts 6:7.

7. The people of Samaria - with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake (using the 3 keys’ of Peter - Acts 2:38), hearing and seeing the miracles which he did

Acts 8:6, 12, 16- 17

8. The man of Ethiopia, an eunuch under Candace Queen of the Ethiopians heard the truth, and accepted and obeyed it

Acts 8:38.

9. Saul (Paul) accepted the ‘3 keys’ of Acts 2:38.

Acts 9:18

Note that when any section/part or single ‘key’ was mentioned from Acts 2:38 on it always means all 3 were incorporated as that was the full and complete plan of salvation so mentioning one ‘key’ means all were used without question. Notice that later in 1 Cor. 14:18 Paul said he was glad he spoke in tongues more than all the others so it is evident that he did receive the Holy Ghost as that 3rd key. One must understand there are 3 types of ‘tongues’ used in the New Testament and I will explain them in the next few lessons.

Note:

THE PROMISE IS FOR YOU TODAY -

If there's a promise in the Word of God that is for me I WANT IT. It is a gift, a deeper experience, and a closer walk than ever before. To have God speak through me and change my language at various times is JOY UNSPEAKABLE. "For with stammering lips and another tongue will God speak to His people.” Joel 2:28

If there is a promise in the Word Of God that is for me I WANT IT. It is a gift, a deeper experience, and a closer walk than every before with you. To have God speak through me and change my language at various times would be JOY UNSPEAKABLE. “For with stammering lips and other tongues will God speak to His people” Joel 2:28

This lesson set before you the full and complete original doctrines of Jesus and the apostles and is called the Apostolic Faith.

Apostolic Pentecost is non-denominational that derives its start from the Book of Acts (Acts 2), The Day of Pentecost and what all the Apostles taught and preached to be saved, Acts 2:38. And it continues unchanged from that ‘Day’ unto today.

Here is my definition of what the word ‘Apostolic’ is and how I mean it when I use it to describe myself, my faith and my beliefs. There are a lot of people, religions, denominations and various others that use the word “Apostolic” with a multiplicity of meanings so I what to clarify exactly what I mean when I use it.

Apostolic means one who believes, practices, teaches and/or preaches the same identical doctrine (teachings) of Jesus and the original Apostles as detailed in Acts 2:38-47.

That is why I said back in the first lesson in the introduction that I was:

I am Apostolic in Doctrine - Acts 2:38-47, Pentecostal in Experience - Acts 2:1-4 and Oneness in Belief - Deut. 6:4; Zechariah 14:9; Matthew 1:23; John 1:1, 14; 1Timothy 3:16; Colossians 2:9-10

Someone once asked God:

“If your plan doesn’t work do you have a back-up plan?”

God turned to them and said:

“NO my child, I don’t.

This is the one and only plan and it is the best for everyone if they love me and want to be with me for all of eternity. I can’t improve it, can’t alter it and I can’t allow anyone else to either.

This is it.”

Gal. 1:8-9

Galatians 1:8-9 (KJV) 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Rev. 22:18-19

Revelation 22:18-19 (KJV) 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Acts 2:38-39

Acts 2:38-39 (KJV) 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Today salvation hath come to your house - what will you do with it?
THE MESSAGE OF ACTS 2:38

God’s plan of salvation is outlined in Acts 2:38 which says, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

When a person repents, they are making the choice to turn their life around. They no longer desire to follow the sinful ways of the world, but rather, they desire to live an obedient life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said in Luke 13:3, "… except ye repent, ye shall likewise perish." Repentance is symbolic of DEATH, or the dying out to the old life of sin.

After one repents the next act of obedience is to be baptized in water in the Name of Jesus Christ. Many today say that it is not necessary to be baptized but the Bible tells us to repent and be baptized. The scripture says that it is for the remission, or forgiveness of sins. God washes away your sins and will never remember them against you anymore. What an awesome thing to be able to throw away the heavy load of sin and guilt that has accumulated in your life! Water baptism is symbolic of BURIAL of the old man (the old you). Consider what Romans 6:4-6 says, "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."

The next thing Acts 2:38 tells us is that we will be filled with the Holy Ghost, which is accompanied by the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues. This is the Spirit of God coming to live inside your spirit (inner man, heart). The baptism of the Holy Ghost is symbolic of RESURRECTION unto a new life. With the indwelling presence of God in your spirit, you are more than able to overcome the pressures of life because with it comes power. Acts 1:8 says, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me …" The Holy Ghost gives us the power to serve God and be witnesses for Him.

Through repentance, baptism, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, we are symbolically re-enacting Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
