It is set among our members, defiling the whole body, and setting on fire the course of our life; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast, and of bird, and of serpent, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With which we bless God the Father, and by which we curse men, who are created in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth sweet and bitter water from the same opening? Can the fig tree, my brothers, bear olives? Or can the grapevine bear figs? So no spring can yield both salt water and fresh.
