Jesus Is My Friend

A Place to Share Our Testimony & Learn About Jesus Christ

I'm not sure what to write about, so I will just start off by saying that I believe it is safe to say this year has been one of the most trying times in my life so far. I'm not really sure where I'm at or where I'm going. Believe me Iraq has been an experience I don't think I would trade if I could, and yet if I never come back to this place it would be too soon. Everything that has happened to me so far seems to have fallen in place perfectly without my asking it to, or even at times without me wanting it to (the bad stuff I mean). Yet everything seems to have been for the better no matter how good or bad it was.

I apologize if my words don't make much sense hehe. I am very tired, and I will be probably for the next couple months until I get out of this place. I don't even know how to describe my experiences out here, and the feelings I've had that have ranged from a great sense of purpose and accomplishment, to despair and depression the likes of which I have never known before.

I guess this is really just me blabbing away like I would on a journal, and at the same time letting those of you out there who may read this know a little something about me. Whenever I am in doubt or something is troubling me I just keep a few verses on hand (and biblegateway.com is a lifesaver haha).

(Joshua 1:9)
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous.
Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your
God will be with you wherever you go.”
~ New International Version ~

(Jeremiah 29:11-13)
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD,
"plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me,
and I will listen to you.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
~ New International Version ~

(2 Thessalonians 3:3)
But the Lord is faithful, and he will
strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
~ New International Version ~

Thank God for his protection, and I pray he will keep watch over us until the day we leave this place. My mission here is not yet over as much as I wish it would be, but it's God's will and not my own that I stay here. He's got his reasons for everything. I also pray my transition back to the world outside the war-zone will be an easy one. I know I'll never forget this place and the people I've served with, and I know I wouldn't trade this experience for the world. God Bless all of ya.. Peace.

Great blog Gabe. There are so many people serving in Iraq who feel the same way you do, yet you have a voice that could be inspirational to so many others who are in the same place. I can't even imagine the horrors who you witnessed and experienced. But like you, I know we all have a time and a place to serve though the will of God often is very mysterious. I can't wait til you come home as I encourage you to keep writing your thought in these blogs as often as you have the energy to do so as we would love to share them with others who need to hear. God bless any may God continue to keep you safe in the arms of his Angels.
