So... I've found myself pondering this question sometimes, and although I feel like I found the answer, I want some opinions from others out there on this particular question of mine. Ok.. now I don't know how many of you out there listen to rock music as heavy as the stuff I'm into, but I'm sure there must be someone out there. I just wonder sometime what God must think about bands such as Mortification, Becoming the Archetype, Living Sacrifice, etc etc etc. I listen to Demon Hunter too, but these bands are much heavier than DH. I look up the lyrics a lot of the time, and they all sing (some of you might not call it singing though hahaha) lyrics that are both positive and loving towards God.... it's just the manner in which they sing it that brings this into question.
Now from what I have heard from others and believe myself is that it is not the instruments used or 'music' that makes the said music good or bad, but more so the message being delivered in the music. I used to listen to bands that sent out a negative and sometimes blasphemous (is there such a word lol?) message. ie: Slayer, Lamb of God <--- (NOT a christian band for those who may not know them), Slipknot, etc. Then those bands who are not self-proclaiming christians, but send out a positive and sometimes almost christian sounding message.. ie: Creed, Killswitch Engage mmmm... can't think of anymore at the moment.
Once I began to follow Christ more closely I began getting rid of all that music and finding music just as heavy and good as the stuff I left behind. The only thing I was wondering was... "does God approve of this?". I love music... like.. it's the greatest thing God ever invented lol. I don't really listen to rap, or country, or any other genre of music besides Rock/Metal.
So in conclusion... I want your feedback :). If you have listened to these bands yourself then you may know where I am coming from. I just can't get enough of it. Anyway, I'll leave it at this for now. Oh a good podcast I found on Itunes and myspace that pretains to this is 'The Full Armor of God Brodcast'. They play the heavy stuff :). ok ok I'm done for real this time!!! Until next time!
